On Wednesday Steve headed back to Europe to spend a couple of days in Paris before returning to Houston. Arvind was not feeling well so his father took us site seeing in Dehli. Our first stop was the burial place of Gandhi.
We then visited this Bahai Lotus temple. It had a unique set of pools that provided natural cooling for the building without requiring air conditioning.
From here we went to some ancient ruins. Originally it was a Hindu temple that the Muslims tore down and rebuilt using their designs.
We then visited the Qutab Minar This tower was one of the tallest towers in the world when it was built.
Some ruins of the temple. It looked somewhat like Tomb Raider.
The thinking pose (Actually everyone was starting to get pretty tired at this point so I guess I should call it 'the resting pose' :)
More ruins.
The base of another tower the Alai Minar that was started but never finished it was to be twice as tall as Qutab Minar
After a very good lunch at a place the driver suggested (although we found out afterwards Pinky had told him where to take us. If you are ever in India she is the one to get you the deals!), we returned to Pinky's house to have some supper before heading out to a light show at the Red Fort. The picture shows Mr. Balaram, Rekha's mother, Mrs. Balaram, Rekha with Pinkys son, Pinky, Pinky's daughter and Pinky's husband. The light show at the Red Fort gave a history of Delhi and was a great way to tie together all the sites that we had seen with some of the history of India. After returning to Pinky's following the show Chris and I had a fun trek through the dark to our hotel from Pinky's place. It was about half a mile or so but it was interesting navigating without any street signs. | ||
