The day after the wedding Anil and Ruth had arranged for a bus tour of Hyderabad for their many relatives and friends (no this is not the bus, just an example of the extremes we saw in India, everything from stretch BMW 7 series cars in Delhi to this ox cart outside our hotel)

One of the first places we went was to Golconda an old fort. It was the seat of power of the famed Qutub Shahi dynasty of the middle ages. This picture is of the entrance to the fort. It is claimed the acoustics of this room were such that someone could speak here and be heard all the way at the top of the fort.

This is just inside the fort walls looking up towards the hill where the main buildings were.

This is a panorama view from the top of the fort looking down over the countryside. It was very impressive.

The tour continued back in Hyderabad with a brief visit to the Salarjung Museum.

We also visited the Hyderabad zoo. It was pretty interesting especially since it did not have the same redundant safety features that most places in North America have. As can be seen in this picture, there was nothing but a chain link fence between us and the tiger. Strangely enough After returning to Dallas one of the local radio stations had some afternoon news about a man in Hyderabad who thought that the tiger in the local zoo was his dead wife. He was arrested for trying to free it. The news was talking about the same tiger as in the picture.

That evening we were fortunate enough to be invited to visit with Ruth's family at their house. They had a wonderful meal and lots of people to meet. I enjoyed lounging around in their hanging chair.

This is a picture of Ruth's aunt. She spoke no English but was one of the sweetest people we met in India.
